My boat is 4 hours away and was wondering if anyone has the measurement of the front hatch. I want to make a bug screen that will slide over rain drain ridge from the outside. I was thinking of using shockcord to hold it on. If someone has a better design, I'd like to hear about that too. Thanks, sPk

Velcro
On our O'Day 25, we use velcro tape around the inside of the hatch opening to secure a piece of flexible screen bordered with velcro. Works fine, and you can close the hatch without removing the screen. Next to duct tape, velcro is our best friend.

Defender has them and there quick and easy to install and store,I had velcro screening that the PO made and the velco needed to be replaced and I ended up buying one set for the aft cabin and saw how easy they were so I bought two more for the foward cabin and front hatch These seem to be easy to use to enter and exit the cabin they come in a bunch of different size's for the hatch and companionway

Mosquito netting by the foot
For less than $10 (but that was a few years ago), we bought about 10 feet by 8 feet of no-see-um netting from REI store in Atlanta. Cut out a couple of small pieces, applied adhesive-backed light duty velcro from XX-mart big box store to both the netting and the companionway & hatches, and threw the rest over the boom (lashed on boat hook as an extension) for a mosquito-free evening in the cockpit.
