The old pendant on my 1976 O'day had a cable tail imbeded into the c/b. The replacement uses a rope spliced to a shackle/clevis??? that is thru bolted in the c/b. Should I over size drill and epoxy and redrill to pin size or redrill and epoxy a nylon bushing in or just drill to bushing size and epoxy the bushing in or just drill to pin size and not epoxy pin???? Also how do I get the new pendant fished thru the housing to the cockpit. Electician's fish?? Mine broke. thanx, gene

I have an O'Day 26, which has a rope pendant attached to a shackle on the centerboard. When I replaced the rope and shacke, to fish the rope through, I tapered the old rope, used tape to attach it to the tapered new rope, then just pulled it through (from the bottom). The boat was on stands in a boat yard at the time. It was very easy.

c/b pendant
well my messenger broke and the pendant is jammed about 3 inches or so above the cabin floor. I have a come-a-long pulling on it but it won't release. I need to know what the tube is made of so I can cut into it and repair the cut. boat is jacked up on the trailer and I don't want to make too many trips inside. It is cribbed safely and doesn't wobble back and forth but I don't want to put my weight topside and shift the center of gravity too many times. Is the tube plastic that is epoxy compatible or is it metal or what. thanx, gene

Gene: Have the same question about attatching a shackle...have you performed your surgery yet? I've got mine on the trailer and its big bucks to have it lifted and want to know what to expect. Did you need to use epoxy or a nylon shim or just a hole drilled through...I'm gonna do mine this weekend so one of us is going to be the gunniea pig. If you have done yours I would appreciate a heads up.

It appeared to me when I drilled the hole in the c/b for the shackle for the pendant that the c/b is solid fiberglass so I felt it didn't need sealant. I just oversize drilled it and installed a tight fitting nylon bushing. As for the plug of tape, I tried to dislodge it with a bar but it wouldn't budge. I found out later that would not have worked anyway. I could not get bar thru from either direction(I cut the 1 inch diameter tube up high under the cabinet so I could try to get a bar down from the top to the plug). I ended up cutting a notch out of the pendant housing just below the cabin floor to expose the plug. The duct tape was so wedged it couldn't be worked loose from either direction. The housing necks down instantly from 1 inch to 1/2 inch with no taper, just a 90 degree reduction. I was able to pry the tape up with and awl and grab it with needlenose pliers. After freeing the housing I ran a messenger thru with a coat hanger and sewed the messenger into the pendant such that the pulling tail(long) stuck out the tapered nose of the pendant tail. I pulled this up thru but the messenger broke of because even the messenger being sewn in caused the 3/8 diameter of the pendant to swell and it wedged in the bottleneck. I was able to get it with pliers. Now I have to fiberglass the housing shut. I would suggest sewing a nylon messenger of small? diameter to both old and new pendants. I would make the new pendant tapered. If it doesn't go easily, you need to start over. It doesn't take much to jamb up. gene
