Any Oday 25 Skipper put a Bimini on their boat?
If so, I'd love pictures and measurements, etc.

well I'd like to buy a universal bimini and adapt it to the boat.
that link you included is interesting, not only the bimini, but other things that skipper has done.
thanks.

I don't know how much help this will be to you, but be sure to raise the boom height as much as the mainsail will allow before measuring clearance for the bimini. My bimini is not telescopic for height in any way and feels like a turtle shell when extended. I wish the PO had gone a little higher when he installed it. I'm sitting here at the office, unfortunately I don't have access to measurements to help you with more specifics.

Ok, 4father, thanks for the response. My further research indicates that it gets mounted below the boom. This looks like its restrictive and has cooled my enthusiasm.

Not that my boat is anything like an O'day, I still ran into the same problems. A couple of things. I moved the bimini back even with the back of the boat. This means the backstay pokes through the bimini. I found a 2 inch thru-hull fitting and glued it to the hole in the bimini, to protect the material around hole from damage. Really not a bad deal. This allowed the bimini to mount back far enough to clear the boom under most conditions. Noticing the one in the earlier photos, I have a 2 rail, instead of the 3 rail, so not as long. My stabilizing posts in the back are vertical, because the bimini is mounted so far back. The bimini is tall, and I even raised it up farther by mounting it on blocks. It's tall enough to look a little weird on the boat, however as it turns out, it is really nice to be able to stand up under the bimini. It makes it much easier to get around - especially crawling over the traveler in the middle of the cockpit.

I was able to install a Bimini for a Hunter 260 on my Oday 25, fits perfect.
It looks very nice in the picture. I'd like more details if its possible, perhaps some pictures when its convenient and a measurement from the cockpit floor to the Bimini. Is it high enough to be comfortable?

Re Nick Shrake. Nick where did you purchase the bimini and for what year of the 260? Have a 1983 day 25 and would like to take your suggestion thanks Bill

The Bimini is off of a 2005 Hunter 260. I found mine at Sailboats inc in Indianapolis. They had one sitting around and I decided to see if it would work. With a few easy alterations it fits.

Nick,
Have you had the bimini up with the mast raised? Wondering if it's in the way of the backstay backstay? I've been thinking of adding a one but wondered if the backstay would be a problem. I saw a 25 years ago with the backstay going through a hole in the bimini.

I put a hole in my bimini for the backstay. I bought a small plastic through hole and glued it to the material. Chopped off the extra threaded tube, so the flange only sticks up a 1/2 above and below the cloth. The only warning I would give is to make sure you can easily and quickly release your backstay so you can put your bimini down quickly. I got caught in a storm and would have been much better off if I could have put my bimini down. We got hit by winds in excess of 50 mph. The bimini prevented the boat from being able to drive into the wind.

Better way is to run a zipper from an edge to where the hole is. That way you don't need to release the backstay. The hole is covered by two semi circular pieces of plastic the width of the zipper screwed or riveted together with the fabric between.

Comes in from the side. The zipper doesn't help you remove the frame, just the canvas. Most people leave the frame up, high winds short of a hurricane won't bother it. You would still need to pop one of the hinges to get the frame off, but that beats pulling the backstay. I just can't imagine disconnecting that with a storm bearing down.

Not really picturing it. My cloth is sewn to slip over the tube. If the zipper came from the side, that would mean shoving the cloth all the way to one side in a big bunch?

They usually have zippers at the tubes too. So two or three zips to get it off the frame, the zip at the backstay, and it's off.
