Does anybody have a document showing the bilge and centerboard trunk layout on an O'Day 25? If not, do you know where one is available? I have a leak and am trying to trace it.

I have water in the the bilge area under the floor in the main cabin. With the centerboard removed I use an air compresser to blow air into the bilge through one of the screw holes and found air coming through a small crack in the side of the top of the centerboard trunk. My question is how did air get from that screw hole to the the top of the centerboard. I thought that that the fiberglass that forms the top of the centerboard trunk was solid fiberglass. Is there an open chamber between between the fiberglass in the trunk and the fiberglass on the top of the trunk that's visable in the floor of the cabin?

Adams asked?

Good question. I have seen the area on the 25 and 26. My impression was that it should be solid. I have never cut into it.

Could there be a cap or liner to the bilge? I guess so. I did not think that there is enough room nor any separation. That would account for the uniformity of the bilges between boats. So, what else?

Delamination is a possibility In the north, water may have gotten in and caused a layer of delamination. Or a very severe grounding may have cracked the inner layer causing subsequent delamination.

I would find out what is going on. I suggest using a hole saw to drill an adequate hole to inspect and evaluate. Sounds like a potential epoxy repair.

When you say O'Day 25, it can be confusing if you don't list the year of your boat. The later models of the O'Day 25 have a different centerboard pendant line configuration than the older models. There is a small compartment where the pendant line sheave hangs in OD 222 which is probably similar to what is on an 86 O'Day 25 or 26. With that said, I can see the plate and nuts that hold the sheave in position, from inside my cabin where the pipe for the pendant line enter a fiberglass hump built into the sole near my companionway step. I know for a fact that this hump is that little compartment for the sheave for my pendant line. I'm not familiar with the entry of the centerboard winch cable mounted on the table stanchion of the older OD 25. It really makes a difference in the year of the boat. Rudy Nickerson may have an answer for you. He would definitely be the one to call. http://www.drmarine.com/ I wish that I could be of more help. We have two mid 1980s models of an OD 25 and 26, and a 1975 OD 25 in our club. The older OD 25 is in the water right now.
