O'Day 240 in Narraganset Bay and around Cape Cod ?

Possibility that I may have to relocate to Rhode Island. I have sailed lakes for years, and have done some costal powerboating years ago out of Ipswich MA. I have an Oday 240 with the shoal keel. How "seaworthy" is she? Could she handle trips around Narraganset bay and Long Island sound and Cape Cod area. Maybe a week or so up to Maine? As much as a larger boat would be nice - I need to keep this one for now. Any info appreciated.

Go for it!

I have been sailing an O'Day 240 for 15 years on Long Island Sound Narragansett Bay Buzzards Bay and Nantucket Sound. Much of the time I have been sailing solo. The boat handles well enough in seas up to as much as 8 feet and winds up to 25 knots with reefed main and a wisp of a jenny. I've had only one knockdown in 15 years and 15,000 miles and I'm still here to tell about it.

Solid coastal boat

I have not had nearly as much experience as Eddie, but I have been caught out in the Mississippi Sound in summer thunderstorms. The boat handled well with only a reefed main. The boat handled the storm better than I did! Probably had 25-30 knot winds. I would like to hear more from Eddie of Falmouth. It is hard to find 240 owners with rough weather experience. I wonder if he would share some of his 240 sailing techniques.

Sounds like the type of sailing I'm used to at times, only bigger waves. I've had mine out in 25 gusting to 35. Reef in the main and most of the genny furled up. The lake I'm on is fairly shallow, so even a light wind gets the waves going - and they are a choppy "square" kind of wave. Not very comfy at all, lots of pounding. She seems solid, but does suffer from a bit of weather helm if you get too much sail up. I sail solo most of the time, boat is set up well for it. Now if I can just get the recruiter to follow up faster on this job - I'd love to have an increase in sailing budget (although having lots of time to sail is OK too...).
