Does anyone have a diagram of the O'day 240 internal boom setup with the rather odd looking block in it? My out haul line was out when I bought the boat (not covered in the manual) and I have no idea how to setup the rigging on the outhaul with the block in the boom? I have the original manual for the boat but it contains little to nothing for rigging the boom and outhaul lines other than the jiffy reefing and topping lift.
They say that the reefing set up is supposed to be pretty good on the O'Day 240. I have Z-Spar mast and boom on my O'Day 222. The mast has internal halyards and the boom has three internal control lines. The center line in my boom is for the outhaul. The Starboard line is for the Topping lift and the Port line is for the reefing. I have a ram's horn under the goose neck to insert the reefing grommet and the reefing line is then pulled up to stretch out the reefed foot of the sail. Do you have two control lines in your boom, or three. If you have two lines, one of them is your outhaul and the other is for your reefing. You may or may not have a pig tail on your back stay with a hook to support your boom. If you do have one, I urge you to get rid of it and use something else. I have a covered wire cable that come down from the mast head to withing a foot of the back of the boom. It has a swaged marine eye with a single sheave attached to it. The topping lift control line in my boom comes out the back of my boom, goes through this sheave and connects on to the back of the boom. I like it, but it can wear on the leach of the sail if it's set too slack. I can adjust this slack at the goose neck with a 3/16" bungee cord that I made up which holds the three cams closed for these lines. Myself, I prefer the reefing set up that I have on my boat. It may be worth your while to buy the control lines off him, as he knows the proper lengths and I'm sure that he also has a diagram to go with it. The other alternative is to install a ram's horn under your goose neck and run a control line through your boom for it, along with an clew outhaul. Here's some pics of what I have so that you can get a better understanding of how it works. The PO may not have riveted the extra bails on the bottom of your boom. One is for your reefing, and the other is for your boom vang. There are some guys on this forum who are familiar with this block set up inside the boom of the OD 240, but unfortunately I'm not one of them.
