Hi all, Long time since I have last visited. I do have a question to ask my fellow sailors here. I have a 1972 Oday 23, which rests on a custom steel cradle. The boat is a hefty 3058 lbs, and I'd like a trailer that can haul 4,000 lbs. Now, in 2006 sometime, I'm considering buying a tandem axle trailer with brakes. I don't want to go to crazy with the cost $$$ but, any recommendations on who's the best manufacturer or recommend a used trailer supplier near Wisconsin? Would it be wise to have the custom steel cradle welded to a frame of a trailer or just forget that idea, buy a trailer and sell the cradle to another sailor? Just looking for suggestions. Mark...I have a 1973 O23 and purchased a new (2005) Venture VBT4700 for her last april. The price for it here in New Hampshire (no taxes), with all the "bunk extenders" needed was $2459. It has been a great trailer and so happy that I bought it. I went for the 4,700 pound model so I would never have to worry about what was on the boat and how much it weighed (besides, it was like only $100 more then the lesser models). Mark, I have the same boat as you, and bought a trailer 20 years ago when the army moved me. I bought a long trailer that has rollers on extended upright supports. Get a tandem with brakes, the boat is heavy. Paul

I pull my 23 Oday on a E Z Loader trailer set up with keel rollers an raised stabilizer rollers. It is tandem axle with brakes and 3500 # drop axles. I do not know what the whole rig weighs but it is close to 6000# going down the road with gas water ,motor, and assorted food and gear. Make sure the tires are rated to carry the boat and trailer.

Hi there, Yeah I got distracted by the daily grind and haven't had time to work on the Oday 23 website I was running, however I do plan on starting it back up. We had a great growing list of people who were happy to see the Oday 23 have their own corner on the web. Even Rudy at D&R Marine gave me the go ahead to start up an Oday 23 Association if I had so wanted to. The idea is still kicking around. Cattivo I is doing good! This year, I'm going to purchase new a CDI roller furler and lead my lines aft. Also getting lazy jacks, new reefing points in the main and some accesories from the chandlery here at Odayowners.com. I have been looking at the 23 O'Day. How easy is it to step the mast? What depth water do I need to launch the boat.

O23 Trailer
I purchased an 80 O23 last year and it came with a trailer, my good fortune. It too is a tandem axle rig. I did add a 12 foot extension to aid in launching and retreiveing. The pitch of the launch ramp will effect your ability to slide on and off, as I found out. The public ramp I use is at the northern end (shallow) of the lake we sail on. I use every bit of the extension to launch and retreive. Stepping the mast isn't difficult at all. Numerous post on this site will give you as much info as you need to set your rig. It is easier and safer to step with two people but you can step singlehanded if you follow some of the directions given in this forum. Good Luck! Steve
