After finally getting my boat in the back yard to start working on her, I have noticed something that I didn't see earlier. On the starboard side of the stern is the name "Pegasus" written in the outline of a horse. It is molded into the gelcoat. Does anyone else have this on their boat? Just curious.

Not on my boat

Actually molded into the gelcoat you say? Never heard or seen such a thing on any production boat, let alone a model as modest as the Oday 23. Maybe its just the "shadow" of some long-removed name?

Re. Oday question

No not a shadow, this is definitely raised gelcoat. Strange.

Interesting

We have a '76 25 that had a painted name on it for approx 10 years or so. We removed the paint, but the Gelcoat under it was protected from the UV and it is somewhat raised. Approx the width of a sheet of paper or so. If you look at it closely you would swear it was molded into the paint. And you can readily make out the name of the boat. The sign guy said that this was common on older boats that were painted. Our name is done in vinyl and covers most of the old raised area. Geof s/v Day-O

Re. Interesting

This is definitely raised gelcoat, not quite 1 millimeter high. It is a graphic design that is the name Pegasus shaped like a horse. Very nicely done. In fact the old owner changed the name to Concordia and the vinyl lettering drapes over part of it. I'll try to get a picture of it when it's daylight.

Yup on the Horse

Yes! In swiping spiders off the stern, I noticed the same Pegasus embossed/raised horse head logo on the back of our boat. I didn't pay much attention to it until reading this posting, as I had assumed this horse head was supposed to be there. Do you think this is some encrypted message or something?? As a horse owner conflicted between riding and sailing, should I begin interpreting this is a message of some sort? Go with the Boat!!

Re: Yup on the Horse

Thanks Mary Jane. What year is your boat? Mine is a '78.

O'Day Trivia or History?

I wonder of the horse is something that was added at the factory for some reason. Or was it something that a group of owners made up? Anyway, I'd be interested in finding out more about this. I'll look at the 23's I see around and see what I find. I wonder if Rudy at D & R could shed any light on this? Geof
