O'Day 23 mast rigging lines specs and hailyard rigging

Hello everyone,

I am the proud owner of an 1979 O'Day 23. I am curious if anyone can help me with how tight the inside and outside mast rigging lines should be? Also curious of how to rig the main and jib halyards through the pulleys. Currently I am forced to run up to the mast and raise both sails that way. Any photos of this would be helpful.

The main and Jib halyards are tied off to cleats on the mast as the standard setup. Some owners have rigged the halyards to be handled from the cockpit, which would involve adding blocks to route the lines aft to line stoppers.

I am assuming htat you mean the standing rigging when yo uask about "inside and outside mast rigging lines"? If so, here is what the Maunal says:
"After all stays are securely attached, take the slack out of the rigging and tighten. With the mast plumb (in a vertical position), the Headstay, Backstay, and the two upper Sidestays, should he tightened 3-5 turns more than hand tight. The two lower Sidestays should be just taut, not hand tight.

CAUTION: It is very important that you do not tighten the stays too much, as this can cause damage to the hull and deck. Also, periodically you should inspect the chainplates for corrosion and the deck area around them for rotted core.

After the stays have been adjusted, take a pair of pliers (even better, use a wrench), tighten the lock nuts on the turnbuckles which will prevent the turnbuckles from unwinding. To be on the safe side, we strongly recommend that you wire and tape the turnbuckles so they will not unwind."

My original brochure is on the boat, but basically it says the outers should be tight and the inners should be less so. It's really that imprecise. I keep my outer stays at about hand tight plus about 3 full turns with a vise grip. The inners I keep at just about hand tight or a little less, so that they do not look slack when the rig is at rest.
I don't have a gauge so I can't say what it translates to.
