I'm having to build a new cradle for a 1980 23 Mk2 that I bought this summer.
With the boat still in the water I'm trying to find the lines drawing in order to correctly place the bunks and keel supports. I also need to place the hull high enough to drop (and remove) the centerboard for some seriious fairing. Any ideas as to the necessary height to be able to get it out?

I'm pretty sure that you can get that info from the Mystic Seaport Museum in Mystic Ct. C. Raymond Hunt Associates turned over all the design specs for the O'Day Sailboats to the museum and you can get them for a fee.
Why can't you have the boat moved to a location of your choice and have it set on sailboat stands? Most movers will supply the stands and you could buy your own stands and replace his stands two at a time with your stands and give him back his stands later on. I bought my own sailboat stands years ago from Brownell's Boatyard in Mattapoisett Ma where they build them and these stands can can actually raise my boat. Don't get me wrong, they're not meant for that purpose, but they will raise my 1986 O'Day 222 with no problem. Years ago I raised the stern of my friend's O'Day 26 with four of my stands with a hydraulic jack under his bow near the keel. I'll be frank with you. Raising any boat this size is dangerous but if you take your time and make every effort to make it safe, it can be done. I've been doing it for years.
It's a good idea to take as much weight off the boat that you can and as you're raising the hull with the poppets, you should shore up under the stern and bow with 6"X6" X 3' wood blocks as you go up. I'm using four SB-3 boat stands plus a single powerboat stand for under the bow. I took my boat off my trailer about a week ago today and put it on boat stands next to my house. In the spring it will be easier to paint the bottom and get at the centerboard while I'm at it. If you would like some pics, you can send me an email and I'll send them to you.
