Does anyone know the size of the original working jib on a 1979 Oday 23? I'd like to replace mine, but am wondering if it is a 105, 110 etc. I am also wondering if anyone has tried a 130 on this boat? I have a jib and genoa and sometimes I wish for something in between. However, I am not sure how the blocks and sheeting angles would work out. Thanks in advance for your thoughts and experiences.

I have the original sails on my 1979 Oday 23, and the head sail is a 100% jib. I just ordered new sails, and I am buying a 130% jib. My sailmaker came out to measure, and he is cutting the sail so that the sheets use the aft stand-up blocks (the ones mounted on tracks aft of the winches), rather than the stationary blocks mounted forward of the winches on the side decks. The previous owner of my boat had a 150 genoa made that I used a few times in very light air. Whenever I did use it, I used the aft blocks for sheeting.

I too have the original for my 23 (1973), and yes, that is a 100. I have never used it, whereas I use the 130 and like Mike, use the aft blocks. I think it is perfect for that boat, that is why I have never even put the 100 up (although, I should one of the these days).

Thanks for the information! My sails were made by Neil Pryde, but I have no idea whether they are original or not. I'll be anxious to hear how your 130 works out. Who is making it for you, and if you don't mind my asking, how much will it cost? I live a long ways from any sail loft, so it would not be practical for someone to come and measure my boat. I am guessing I have the same set up as you, with a car with movable blocks on aft portion of the toe rail.

Kevin, I just bought a 133% from Sail Warehouse for my 23. Works great and the price was reasonable. Usually have them in stock for O-23s. Later Ed
