O'Day 23 Hatch

The hatch cover on my 23 is made of a tinted plastic material. Does anyone know if it would be plexiglass or something that I could cut vents into. I want to put asolar fan on the front deck and need a ventin the back of the boat to get ventilation.

The original hatch boards were wood at least mine are on my 23. Sounds like someone used plexiglas as a modification Plexiglas can be cut but I would take it to someone who has the right kind of blade and experience to get it done unless you have the correct tools to proceed. You'll want to have the vents cut at an angle so that water does not intrude.Good Sailing,John Rich

replaced with teak

I just purchased new hatch boards for my O'Day 23 from Rudy at D & R Marine. They already have the vents cut in them, all I had to do is put a few coats of Setol on them. I also replaced my hatch retainers and hatch runners. A lot of work however the last owner painted the teak black and the wood was in bad shape. The only thing I still need to do is trim the top of the new hatch boards. They seem to be off a 1/4" on the starboard side.

I would be intrested in replacing the companionway hatches on my 222. Mine are plywood, not sure if the origionals would be plexiglass or teak but the teak would be a nice addition. Was the price in line with the value of the boat? Does D&R have a parts catalog for the O'Day line?
