Has anyone installed a bimini on an Oday 23? I need some shade, but I'm not sure what kind of room there would be between the top of the bimini and the boom. AND, I'm 6'5", so that presents it's own challenges. I've found a couple out-of-the-box biminis on the web, but am a little unsure of the installation, as well.

Thanks!

Ruled it out

because there is not enough head room below the boom. The other problem is you would not be able to get on or off the boat with the bimini in the way. I have rigged a canvas tarp that I can drape over the boom when at anchor to keep us out of the sun.

I used a standard out-of-the-box and it does the job nicely. I'm not as tall as you so that may be an issue. Due to the mainsheet setup on the 23' I was forced to move it slightly forward so as not to impede it's function. I do have to stoop to move about, but that out weighs the alternative. I perfer to sail with it closed and do so on most days. On those brutal days in mid summer it's a life saver. Attached few pics. Did add the back supports so it doesn't have to lay over the coach roof when not in use.

My set up is like Steves. Yes you have to contort a little to go forward-BUT- a bimini is the single best item I have done to my O'Day 23. It makes those hot sunny days SO MUCH more pleasureable.

Out of the box from where? I'm totally interested!
After the fireworks on July 4th, my son Evan (1st mate) was up at 5:30, so we were under-way by 7:00 am. It was a bluebird day and I finally got out of the sun around 4:00 pm, so you can imagine what my melon felt like.

Much thanks!

P.S. Lance, are you using the spinnaker much?

I actually purchased mine on line. If you're still in the market the company I purchased it from a company linked at www.websweeper.com. I bought it on sale, it's a three bow Sunbrella bimini, with stainless tubing and fittings, quick release pins and a Sunbrella boot to cover it when not in use. Just checked the site and they have a sale on now. Can't remember which one but it was either a Taylor or Carver brand bimini. It has held up very well. I didn't have to modifiy the tubes at all. I think I measured for a 46" height, 6' length and about 92'' wide. Tried to locate the original paperwork but can't seem to find it. Mounted mine between the genoa track and combing.
