O'Day 23 Antenna position on the mast.

I am in the middle of rewiring the mast. The anchor light is mounted on top of the mast. The antenna is mounted to the side of the mast with the barrel of the coil rubbing against the tang that fastens the shroud to the mst. It looks like the tang was rotated some to allow the antenna to fit. I think there has to be a better position for the antenna. What are you folks using on your masts?

I have a Metz antenna and the plan was to put the windex on that. The anchor light is now mounted right on the top of the mast and I have not worked out a way to keep the windex from hitting it, if the antenna was on the side of the mast. I had hoped to avoid adding an arm sticking out if possible. Maybe sliding the windex up the antenna whip to clear the light? I wonder if anyone has done that?

I can see how it can be difficult to mount an antenna and a 12" extension bracket for a Windex on a mast head rig. The bracket facing aft for the Windex is a must on my boat. I can view it very easy from the helm. If you have the room on the other side of the mast for the extension bracket, all you need to do is drill and tap it for threads. I also mounted a cheek block for a flag halyard and I'm able to send a pig stick with our club burgee above the antenna and Windex. I could really do without it if I had to.

My windex slides over the antenna, one less thing to mount on a crowded masthead.

...and you're right, I really don't like the way the your antenna coil interferes with the tang.

I ordered the Davis AV Windex.



I will either mount it on the port side, but higher and back toward the sterm a little to clear that tang, or drill a hole through the mount and mount it right on the bolt that holds the tang to the mast. Or, maybe whatever you guys suggest that sounds better. I don't want the barrel of the antenna to block the view of the anchor light. I pulled the bolt out today and took the cap off the mast. I wanted to add some strain relief to the coax and wiring, and some foam tubing to keep the noise down. I needed to make a mount for the anchor light, and bolt that on top of the cap too.
