Oday 23-2 Dog River
I am trying to strip everything off of my 23-2 mast to rewire and clean everything up. I am trying to take the through bolt out that holds the inner shrouds, but it seems to be stuck. It is free spinning and I cannot tap it out. The nut sheared the tip of the bolt off when attempting to remove, and it seems like the remaining bolt should just slide out. I did notice that the spreader base was bent and possibly the bolt on the inside is also. Any ideas on how to get this bolt out? Beat it with a hammer?

It may have something to do with a compression sleeve. Proceed carefully. Don't beat it with a hammer or anything else!
Bolts for spreaders that traverse the mast often have compression sleeves to prevent compression of the mast from over tightening the bolts. Especially in rigs with swept back spreaders which your photo suggests.

Heat and Beeswax. not to much heat enough to melt the wax but not turn the wax to smoke. The trouble will be that that the compression sleeve will want to spin. If you ge enough wax in the joint you may be able to tap it out lighly with a hammer. Tapping not pounding. I use a mapp or propane torch for heat. Add a little heat then add wax. Then a little more heat. You dont want to over heat the aluminum.
the link below has the whole story
