Oday 222 Newport Beach
Hi all,

I recently broke the mast on my 1985 O'day 222 while sailing in some heavy winds. It has a Dwyer mast and I'm trying to find the dimensions to get a replacement. DRmarine offers a replacement mast with no mention of specs, but it's a little pricey. Does anyone know the numbers on this or a good place to get a mast used or new that's not to expensive?

Thanks for your help,

All I can tell you is that the mast on my 1986 O'Day 222 is 27' long. It was made by Z-Diffusion in Bristol RI, out of business. My mast is set up for internal halyards and control lines in the boom.
O'Day used about five different spar manufacturers back then. Dwyer and Z-Spar were two of them. Isomat, Sparcraft in Ervine CA, and Yacht Riggers in Seattle Wa., were also used.
I'd spring for a new Dwyer mast and rigging. Any sailboat rigger in your area can set you up with a new mast. They may even have a used one laying about. Whatever you were able to salvage from the old mast can be used on the new mast.
I lost my mast back in the 1990s and the rigger used a lot of the extrusions from my old mast. Fortunately for me, I had insurance back then.
Good luck!
