Someone on the forum had asked me a while back about the full stern rail on my 1986 O'Day 222, and I couldn't remember if the O'Day factory installed it or if it was was installed by the dealer that I bought the boat from at the Boston Boat Show. I recently asked Rudy Nickerson of D & R Marine who was working for the O'Day factory back then, and he informed me that the O'Day factory did in fact build 20 O'Day 222s with full stern rails. Between the Massachusetts plant and the plant in California, O'Day built a total of 668 O'Day 222s, and my boat Trinkka was number 652. My hull number is: XDYJO 652 F 6 86. The 652 corresponds to the number of hulls built, and the F stands for the month, which is June (A being January) and the 6 is the day of the month that the hull was completed. The XDY prefix was on most of the hulls and when Lear Ziegler sold out to Star-craft, the new owner wanted the STA for the new prefix hull numbers. At any rate, O'Day did build full stern rails on some of their boats according to Rudy, and I have one of them so there must be 19 more of them out there. Does anyone on the forum own an 86 or 87 O'Day 222 with a full stern rail? Don't be confused by the picture of my stern rail. I added a mast carrier to mine years ago, which is detachable. I liked it so much that I kept it on permanently with bolts.
