On a 1978 ODay 22 -slug, rope, bolt -type mainsail, what's the difference?

Mainsail

Tom - You're really only about two different things here - both ways of attaching the sail to the boom and mast. With a boltrope, you have a rope sewn into the sail that goes into the tracks on mast and boom. With slugs, they're evenly spaced slugs on the mast, usually still rope on the boom. I like slugs personally because the make the sail easier to handle, but they both work equally well. Justin - O'day Owners' Web

Will either work on a 78' 22ft

Justin, Thanks for the info. But will the 22' accept either style? I'm trying to buy a sail but not sure which type I need. Also, I noticed different diameters (ex. 7/16, 3/8 slug)How critical is this to match?
