Small lake sailing.
I have an O'22 on Buckeye Lake in Ohio. The lake is about 8 miles long and a mile wide. I use a Honda 4 stroke 2 hp with no reverse (I have to pivot the motor around to go in reverse) but I only use it to get out of my slip and go about 400 yds. into the bay before I set the sails. It has worked fine for me and is lite and reliable.I made my own cushions with Sunbrella. Now I do own an athletic mat company so fabric and foam was cheap (dare I say free) and we have commercial sewing machines and no, we don't do boat cushions (except for the owner). But look in your area for a canvas or awning company and they can do it and probably cheaper then a marine company. The Sunbrella fabric sold in the boat catalogs is about 3 times the cost as for manufacturers. If you're making the covers yourself, try buying the fabric from an awning co. I won't staple the fabric to plywood. Sew covers with zippers so you can take them off and clean them or dry out the foam, etc.
