I have a 1975 O'Day 22 hull # SCZ600MU1078. I ordered a new sail manufactured by Sails East. The Luff, Foot & Leach are the same as my original O'Day Sail but the roach ( space from the Leech to the outside edge of the sail ) extends 4-6" more than the old sail so the leach side hits and does not clear the Aft. Stay. I believe that the hardware including the mast are original and not altered. The company that sells the sail tells me that they sell numerious sails of the same cut each year without customer concerns. They have compaired the sail with others and it appearantly is not a miss-cut, and have installed the sail on a 74 O'Day 22 without a problem. We checked to be sure the sail is all the way to the top of the mast and have tried lowering the boom and still have interference.
