Oday 22 Ballast

I understand my 22 has ballast. Can I assume this is water ballast. I have no books and can't find any info on the subject. Any info on ballast would be helpfull.Thanks in advance for your help.CJ MasterClearwater Fl.

Water Ballast

I do not beleive the O'Day made a boat with water Ballast, I could be wrong. Here are the specs in this web site on the O'Day 22.I would not assume anything at this point, My 25 does not have water ballast, I know this. Unless of coarse my kids open the seacock and remove the drain hose from the Gally drain. They have not done that (YET!!!). I give them time as they are toddlers.EJ Tews

Ballast

CJ, The 22 has ballast in the keel. It's covered in fiberglass so you can't see it. I beleive it's lead. Ron

Lead

It's lead. 700 to 900 lbs, depending on the year I belive. The only boat that I know of that uses water ballest is the McGregors.Josh

Ron is right, the lead keel is covered in fibreglass. I know because after I hit a rock in my 22 I started taking on water until I could haul the boat and relaminate it!

O'Day 22 Ballast

I have an 1972 "22" the battast is lead.I understand some later years used iron.
