O’Day 22, 23 centerboard cleat

I’ve owned a 1979 oday 23 and now own a 1980 oday 22. Both boats have awkward center board pendant cleating arrangement: a horn cleat on the vertical face of the meager bridge deck. It’s a real pain to adjust the CB while sailing single handed. I’m thinking of making a small angle bracket from aluminum stock and mounting a small bullseye swivel cleat where the horn cleat is.

Has anyone done anything similar?

My 25 has jam cleats for the jib and centerboard. Check to see if yours is the same. These cleats will hold a heavy load when used properly and are much faster to adjust than a traditional cleat

Thanks, but mine is just a small horn cleat. A jam cleat would be better than that.

I know the water is skinny there. You can't find a happy medium position for the CB? You only need the CB for pointing. If you turn the pendent down you would have to push the weight of the CB to to lift it. Nah!

You're looking for something like this? It should work, but I you are correct, at least on the 22 an angle bracket on the aft face of the bridge deck will be needed, but I'd say it is an excellent idea! The cleat pictured I found listed as for the mainsheet on a Widgeon on the D&R web-site. Rudy is a dealer for Gauhaurer, so may have other similiar items ,worth giving him a call!
