Recently acquired an O'Day 20 which does not have the original rudder. If anyone could send me a picture (digital) and measurements I would be grateful. If anyone knows of a possible source for an original rudder/tiller please let me know. My email address is mark8322@aol.com. Thank you.

Rudder Replacement

Mark - I can't help you with specifications close enough to allow you to build a rudder but you can probably get one from www.odaysailboats.com Justin - O'day Owners' Web

Rudder for 20

Here's my rudder. Wood between 1/4" aluminum plates is 1" thick (same as rudder blade before taper). Rudder is 11 1/2" wide. Length from bottom of bottom mount bracket to forward end is 35". From bottom of top mount bracket to tiller rest is 7 3/4". Kick-up pivot is 4 1/2" from forward edge and 2" above the bottom of the bottom mount. Overall tiller length is 43 1/2". Email me for more pictures at mfabre@fmsys.com Hope this helps. Happy sails.

Rudder Replacement

Mark- I also have an O'Day 20, and my rudder is completely different from the one shown in the earlier response. Mine is a pretty clunky item, made out of fiberglass. I'll try to take a couple pictures of it and send you the measurements soon. I do have to admit that the picture posted already looks much more efficient than does mine. I may have to build one to match. Incidentally, when I purchased my boat a bit more than a year ago, it came with a spare pair of BADLY bent Pintles, yet the rudder showed no damage...perhaps my rudder isn't original. Scott
