I have recently purchased a used oday 20 as my first sailboat. I have completed the first task ( cleaning from top to bottom) and have moved on to the second task, finding out what i HAVE for gear. I havent now moved on to the third task, which is finding out what i DONT have.
After going to step the mast i realized i have no clevis pins for the stays nor do i have the main pin ( if thats what it is) for the mast. I have been told its called a Mast Pin and that i could even use a large clevis pin for the job.
The big issue is that no marina or catalog website nor even west marine ( my local ocean sail store) has any pins that large. It appears i need at least a 3inch pin with a 3/8 dia ( max dia).
Now my question: is there an aftermarket site for odays that may have such a pin or even a good source for larger clevis pins?
At this point i may have to have it custom made, which isnt the end of the world, its just id rather have an original and be able to order it, which would seem to be faster.

To answer that nagging question of many who see this..no, i dont know the last owner who was the last person to unstep the mast. It was passed through a few hands to find its way to me, so im left with solving its mysteries :)

Thank you ahead of time

pin replacement at hardware store

Use a stainless steel carriage bolt from your local hardware store. That's what I did with my Oday DS II, as well as my current Sundance Weekender 20. You may want to buy it long enough to be able to cut off the threads, and drill a hole for a cotter pin. Otherwise use a ss nyloc nut to secure it. It sounds like you have already measured for the proper fit.

If you insist on original equipment try D&R marine. Rudy has all the parts for all the O'days. There is the O'day 20 parts site.

exactly what i needed

Thank you, i added that site to my list.

That pin SEEMS a bit large to me but i am guessing ill end up needing it anyways. I ordered a 3" pin from an industrial supply house ( the largest they had in that dia) and will test it to see if it fits. If not, now i have an alternative.

Again, thank you.
