I have seen a few posts re boats on tidal moorings. I currently have an O’Day DaySailer 3 on a tidal mooring - goes completely dry at low tide without any problems. Very sand bottom. I am looking to go up in size to a 192. Would this be too much stress on a 1985 O’Day 192? Would the 192 “float” as the tide came in or would we risk flooding the cockpit as water came over the sides?

I'd be afraid stuff on the bottom would jam up the CB keel stub that might prevent the CB from coming down when needed. And I also don't think you want the Chine to get beaten up as the tide comes in or out. I wouldn't do that to my 222. I had a Mariner that would stay on a mooring that went dry. But the CB trunk had a lot of room because the CB was a thin piece of iron. Perhaps an O'Day Mariner would be a better choice of boat for that location.
Thanks! We‘ve never had a problem with our O’Day DaySailer 3 but it might just be too different of a design to compare to the 192. We do know that a nearby 19 (not 192) does not have problems with the centerboard getting gunned up. Tough call…..

Some boat designs are better for such a tidal moorage than others.
Of course that doesn't stop owners from giving it a go. If your moorage is in protected waters and the tidal change is gradual, not a tidal bore
Then the ebb & flood should lower the boat and raise the boat without much problem. If the boat is listing and the combings are low you may get splash into your cockpit from wind waves. Keep your scuppers clear so that the water can drain away as fast as it gets on to the boat.
As far as debris and sand infiltrating the CB keel stub, I would expect that to occur over time. Should mostly flush out as the boat is used.

Quick update from summer 2023. Our new to us O’Day 192 was absolutely fine on its tidal mooring. No problem with the centerboard, no obvious wear on the hull or standing rigging. That said, in early August, we were able to move her to a spot where the keel just barely touches the soft sand at the lowest tide.

This will do a wonderful job of clearing the sea life from the bottom of your keel. It will also help when it comes time for bottom painting prep. The old paint will be conveniently removed from the bottom of the keel. WIN
. Just be careful. Too much time and the “Soft Sand” will softly remove the gel coat and other strata from the bottom of your keel, Softly….
