Oday 19 -Trailering weight vs displacement are very different.

Hello,
How is this possible? I am purchasing a 1980 O'day 19 (not the Mariner) and the information I can find from two sources (http://www.iheartodays.com/model_oday_19.html and from an O'day brochure on line) states the trailering weight is 1350 lbs and the displacement weight is 2040 lbs. At first I thought the Iheartodays.com site must be mistaken, but then I saw the same information in the the O'day factory brochure.

Shouldn't the displacement and the trailering weight be almost the same if not exactly the same? How could they be that different?

No, it is not a water ballast. Good question though - that I would be able to make sense of.

We have an O'Day 19. The O'Day 19 (nor the O'Day 192) does not have water ballast.

Trailering weight is the actual weight (as mass) of the boat.
Displacement is the weight of the (maximum) displaced volume of water when fully loaded with gear and people.

Trailering weight would be less than displacement although the two terms are often not rigorously used.

Our O'Day 19 tows and launches easily - a good boat for spontaneous sailing trips.

John, Thanks. We are getting the boat on Saturday and looking forward to it. Our first sailboat to learn on. I guess that explanation makes sense. It is just confusing as some websites say the displacement is the weight... I guess they must be counting the motor and a really big lunch!
