OD 22 Where does gas can/line go?

Hi - I recently bought an Oday 22 andplanto launch tomorrow. The gas can is in the stern port side outside locker by the transom. If I run the gas line directly from there, over the stern by the ruder, I'll prabably snap it - it just doesn't look right.

I noticed there is a cicrular hole just to the left of the outboard on the transom -is that supposed to be for the gas line to the outboard? Does that mean the gas can goes in the outside starboard side locker closest to the stern, placing it below the cockpit - there's not flat flooring down there, so I have been skeptical. But maybe that makes sense?

It depends on where the fiberglass wedge is placed. I just bought an O'day 23 about 5 weeks ago and the wedge was on the port side, with a hole in the transom leading into the area just below the port side cockpit seat.

I place my 3 gallon tank in there....even though it's not level and run the gas line directly aft through the transom hole to the motor.

I think that the starboard cockpit seat is truly the place with the original O'day people thought the gas tank would go, but for some reason my wedge was installed on the port side.

I could be wrong..?!!??!?!?

I would place it where it fits best-

run the fuel line through the provided hole- and if your line is too short, you can section in an extension using some extra fuel line(joined with steel tubing and good clamps)- the motors fuel pump will draw the fuel fine. Don't know the year of your boat but some had a locker for fuel tank under seat that was well vented (bottom 1/5 of outer wall down by your heels was open to let out fumes)

My memory is a little fuzzy on this but I think

if you need to run fuel line from one side to the other- you can run it between inner and outer transom and up and over cockpit drain tube. This will keep it off inner floor and out of harms way. Let us know how your first outing in new boat goes!

1975 oday 22

my 1975 oday 22 has fuel tank in starboard locker with hole exiting locker at rear into cockpit area the another hole in transom which runs to motor mounted starboard side hope that helps. also my fuel tank lies perfectly flat in locker

1978 O'Day 22 Fuel Locker

Not sure if this will help, but I have a 1978 O'Day 22. The fuel tank goes in the port side locker and there is a plaque installed there that says something about proper storage and ventelation of fuel. The construction of this locker allows for a fair amount of ventelation. There is a hole at the bottom of the locker leading into the cockpit out of which the fuel line runs. The fuel line goes over the stern to the engine which is mounted on the starboard side of the transom. The only hole in the transom is the one that drains water from the cockpit (the "self bailer"?), and I wouldn't want to block that up.

I thought about drilling holes and putting the fuel line through the inner hull and over to the engine. However, I figured that would just create a point where water could potentially get between the hulls.

Walter- I have a 79 22-

My fuel locker is also on the port side furthest astern in the cockpit. The only difference in mine from TGongaware is the exit hole in the locker is at the top of the locker. From there, the fuel line simply goes over the stern to the starboard mounted motor. I have no thruholes to the motor.

It may look a little awkward, but it works fine, and I wouldn't want my tank any place other than where it was designed to go. But that's just me...
