Hi
I have recently bought a Beneteau Oceanis 46 and cannot contact the previous owner for this rather simple question:
Where are the light switches for the light on the transom and the light at the top of the stairs going into the cabin? Anyone know? Many thanks

The lights you mentioned on my 423 are controlled by a remote keyfob only. The transmitter for it is my aft bunk directly adjacent to the water tank and battery switches. If you have the transmitter but no keyfob you can order a new one (believe its aquasignal) from WM or Beneteau.

Oh dear. Why not a simple on/off switch as in every other light on the yacht and every light in every house in the western world.

Beneteau deems it a courtesy light...gives you the ability to turn the lights on from the dock or dinghy so you can see better to board at night. Pretty good feature as long as you keep track of the fob which with me may be an issue :)

Actually what would have been nice is a combo: hard wired switch and remote. Somewhat like my garage door opener where I can open or close via remote or on the 'wall'

Many thanks for your help. Yes I can see it as a good feature returning on a dinghy in the pitch black.

Is this a common feature and should I expect it on my 2013 Oceanis 45? I'm not aware of the feature.

The courtesy light uses small black key fob made by Aqua Marine. It has 2 buttons, an on/off and a timed on button. The receiver may be mounted near the house battery and labeled Aqua Marine. This system is used on lots of boats. If you google it you will see that even West Marine carries it. Also somewhere on a a panel below the salon cushions you should find an amber indicator light. It will come on to remind you that the courtesy light is on. Good luck.

Ah yes the amber light. Since it was adjacent to the water heater I thought it had something to do with that. I will look the next time I am down. I need to talk to my dealer and find out what is up. I was also given only one key to the companion way. :-(

Grouperhound, you definitely have it. There is a receiver for it next to the main house batteries (under the aft starboard berth?) and that is where I found my key fob taped to it. Making another companionway key is more complicated than you think, lots of places don't have the right blanks including all the home improvement stores I tried, but a locksmith should have no problem.

I got my blanks direct from Beneteau in Marion. - don't recall price but they were relatively cheap.

Great information. I contacted the dealer and he has my second key. As for the courtesy lights he is investigating, but I will look myself when I go down this week. Thanks again folks. I wonder how many other folks are out there that are unaware of the feature.

I also purchased a two channel remote and fob for the transom hydraulics control. I want to be able to raise it from the dingy if I go ashore. Getting a bit fancier I have two solenoid valves and a latching two channel remote for filling the water tanks from the shore water connection. Gotta love Amazon.

Found it. Thanks. It was exactly where you said it would be. I'm a bit miffed why the dealer was not aware of it. I have LED's in the cockpit, one for and aft of the nav table and one each next to the helms. It never occurred to me to look for a switch for them.

I'd like to wire the hydraulic transom with a key fob as well. Winter project.
