We are painting the bottom of our 381 (2001) and need to know what to use to replace the undercoating on the keel. On the bottom of the keel, it has worn spots right thru to the raw metal. What surface preparation should be used prior to painting? Also what to use to replace the seam filler where the keel meets the hull?

Any suggestions are appreciated!

according to interlux, the keel needs to be sanded down to bare metal, then immediately coated with a coat of Interlux 2000E thinned 15%, after which any obvious dings, gouges, etc can be epoxy filled. Then coat with 4 more coats of 2000E,. after that repaint with bottom paint. I got this information both from my dealer and from interlux because my keel also needs attention. Both said its extremely important to get the first coat of 2000E on the keel before the slightest hint of oxidation.

I thought about hand sanding, but I have significant areas of small blisters, so I am considering media blasting the entire keelbefore re coating.
