PVC a better choice in sanitation systems
Bronze if you're absolutely dead set against PVC, but metal isn't recommended in sanitation plumbing OR holding tanks because urine destroys it...even 316 investment cast stainless.
To answer your questions, Cat.. Standards don't address "acceptable work arounds"...However, any "loop"--macerator, diaphragm pump or just an unvented loop--mounted above the tank is better than nonel. A macerator or manual diaphragm pump won't completely block any upward flow that's under pressure, but it will slow it down considerably and it's unlikely that a siphon could get started.
All this nitpicking arguing for or against, etc etc really comes down to just one very simple thing: it's YOUR boat and your choice whether to install vented loops (or any other equipment or not All anyone here or anywhere can do is help you to make an informed choice. That said, I think we've just about beaten this subject to death!
