Oberdorfer seals/Air cleaner

Hello all. Hope your all doing well. Boat was launched last Friday and burried with snow Monday. I love Michigan weather. Anyways, I have to rebuild my Oberdorfer N202M-07 raw water pump. Can I press the seals in with basic tools and a bench vice, or will a machine shop do it? Rebuild kit is $54 and a new pump is $250. What about the shaft? Just check it for ware? Also, the pump has a grease cup on it. Do I put axle grease in there? The grease cup is on a downward angle so how does it grease the shaft? Do I need gravity defying grease?

All the preaching on here about changing oil and fuel filters, nothing is mentioned about the air cleaner. How often should it be changed. They are like $120 bucks.

On most Oberdorfer pumps ... you can easily press the bearings yourself. Unless the bearing has collapsed, the shafting should be fine.

The grease cup needs 'waterproof' grease, some 'axle greases' have fibers in the mix ... not needed. The resultant pressure from screwing down the cap is all thats needed.

(Foam) Air filters on diesels are there typically only as a 'sound silencer' and only stop stones, twigs and small animals from being aspirated ... a good 'wash' is all thats needed. If pleated 'paper', then by all means replace at least yearly.

Depending on your configuration,you can replace it with something much better. I replaced the filter on my Yanmar with a K&N type. Much less expensive than the Yanmar foam, just wash it once or twice a year. And cleans better and passes more air than the stock foam filters. I think there is some info on this on MaineSail's stuff.
