I am replacing the oberdorfer raw water pump on my M25 due to a constant drip from the weep hole. In looking at the assembly diagram it shows the inlet and outlet on top. My existing pump is piped with the inlet and outlet on the bottom. I wouldn't think it would make a difference, but since these pumps are expensive I want to do it right. Also what is the best grease for the grease cup?

John : Before you invest in a new and expensive pump, you may want to try replacing the seals. If your pump was like the one I had on a previous boat that had a Universal M-18 engine, there are two grease seals, one at each end of the shaft that drives the pump. It's not a particularly difficult job to pull the pump, pull out the impeller and shaft and replace the seals. Unless the interior of your pump, cam, and pump cover are shot, replacing the pump itself may be an unnecessary expense that you may be able to avoid.

Universal sells a seal kit for the pump for about $90.00. Call your local dealer and have them get you one. The job should take about 2hrs for the average person.

Stu, Thanks for the great advice. I removed the old pump last night. The rotation of the impeller is clockwise. Can I assume that the inlet connection is on the upswing of the impeller and the discharge is on the downswing of the impeller? If the conections are facing down(as in my boat)the inlet would be on the left and the discharge on the right. I don't know if the new pump I am getting indicates this. Thanks to ALL for responding.
