I had to clean my 18 HP Yanmar intake strainer. I swear there was no o ring hidden between all the gunk. After putting it together it leaked like a siv. Ended up using teflon tape to seal it. Can someone steer me to a place I might find a replacement o ring? I went to West Marine's website and I did not find anything to do with strainers there.

O-ring?

What kind of water strainer do you have? If it is a bronze Perko with Glass middle, than there is no O-Ring anywhere. Is you are talking about sealing the lid, tha the gasket is made out of cork (spelling?). Please clarify

probably a Shurflo strainer

When you took it off, the ring stays in the plastic cup and then you turned it upside down to clean it - bye bye. I did it to two different strainers before I realized what happened. Not sure if BoatUS or West Marine have just the o-ring but you CAN get them. Jim S/V Java

Jim: I think that's it. I'll try again with West Marine. On July 4th my fiancee and I starred at Java and Baby Java for a long time. Great looking boat!!

Teflon Tape...Good idea

It seems I have the same strainer setup. My O-ring is leaking and just last night I was scatching my head on where to find a replacement. I am going to bring out some teflon tape this evening as a back up. In the meantime I (always) close my through hulls to keep the leaking to a minimum. Andy

O ring

March yourself down to your local ACE hardware. Most of them have an O ring box. Just pick out the right size. If that doesn't work, try a bearing supply or even an auto supply. Will also be much cheaper than a boat place.

Thanks Broke Sailor

My slip mates said someone was walking the dock. We got there a little later in the day. I had been in San Fran and got back late July 3. We went up and watched the fireworks at Dalghren and anchored over at Swan Point for the night. Jim S/V Java

O ring source

Go to McMaster-Carr, see Link, they have just about anything you could want. Best part is that their internal search engine can atually find things and they have no "Minimum Buy" and their shipping is reasonable. Type "O ring" in the "Find Products" box. They have a page of info about materials and sizing (They have o rings from 0.043" to 26.5" OD so you will probably find what you need) . A word of caution you can spend hours (and dollars) there! They stock all kinds of interesting materials for boat projects and maintenance.
