I'm thinking about going to the 28' O-DAY. I would like some information from someone who has one. I presently own a Cat 25,1984. The O-DAY is a 1980

O'Day 28

We have had 1983 O'Day 28 for a couple of years. It is alot of boat for the money. We have as much usuable space as a Catlina 30 for a lot less money. The boat is a little underpowered in light air but really comes into it own with winds for 15 to 25 knots. We have cruised larger boats but you would need to get at least a 38 foot boat to increase your sleeping arrangements. You need to evaluate your needs in ( racer or cruiser) a boat to see if this one fits. If you want a good cruising boat that easy to handle the O'Day 28 is hard to beat.

info on the 1980 dl

We are always glad to say something positive about our 1980 28' O'day. We purchased her, moving up from a 25' O'day and owned her for approximately ten years. We purchased her with the idea of sailing her south down the ICW, through FLA and home. We've been back for a littlemore than a year. I must say here and now that she is a marvelous boat and sailed extremely well in all conditions. (she was the shoal draft/centerboad model). We found that we upgraded interior and exterior lighting, the altenator, rebuilt the starter, rebuilt the injectors, and the water pump. We replaced the twenty year old Raritan Water heater and replaced some of the plumbing from the head. We had little or no trouble with her standing rigging; we replaced the head stay mainly to upgrade the original Hyde system with a Harken version. Most everything else was original and we had no complaints. She went where many boats of similarsize couldn't go. If I was where I was then, now, I wouldn't hesitate to purchase her again. Good luck with your plans.
