Any input is greatly appreciated. I am not a racer I am cruiser.
I borrowed a "LOOS" gauge this weekend from a dock neighbor.

My boat is a 34" Day

Here is what I set the 1/4" rigging at:

The back stay at 36-- 1000 pounds
The upper stay at 33-- 800 pounds
The forward lower stay at 32-- 780 pounds
The aft lower stay at 31-- 740 pounds

I was pretty confused but with I Pad in hand that is what I came up with.

What do you experienced people think

Thanks
Pat

O'day rig tuning

I would say it's too loose. Set the upper shrouds to 15-17% of breaking strength or +/- 1200-1400 lbs. Set the lowers at 10-12% or +/- 800-1000 lbs. Adjust your lower shrouds so that you have the required amount of prebend by applying more tension to the forward lower shrouds then to the aft lower shrouds. Backstay tension will vary depending on how much head stay sag you want.

Whether you race or cruise, rig tension is important because loose rigging can cause just as much damage as an over-tensioned rig.

It bears mentioning that the mast should be straight (no bends any direction) with the proper amount of rake before and after tuning. A rigger might be the person to call and then watch carefully as the process is done.

I agree with Ted that you are still light on tension. His figures and advice are very good. The mast must be straight side to side and mast rake should be in place before tension on the headstay and backstay are applied.

How would you induce mast rake without tensioning the aft stay?
Once the rig is in proper tune, you cannot increase mast rake without first loosening tension on all the shrouds and stays unless you have an adjustable mast step with roller bearings. I am assuming we're talking about a keel stepped mast in this particular boat. If you just tension the back stay you will induce mast bend not mast rake. That would also increase your headstay tension. You would need to set the proper mast rake prior to tensioning the shrouds and stays.
