Ok Campers, I'm going to try and keep a positive spin on this! Many folks know, including Hunter, that that mast hole opening on the 216 tends to leak water into the cuddy cabin. Hunter has already responded with a small "fix" by supplying a velcro insert that will slow down the leak. I also heard of one suggestion to somehow insert some plumbers dumbo in the mast slot in a location just before the mast enters through the cuddy cabin cover. I also heard through the grapevine that Hunter might be still searching for a solution. Which begs the question: has anyone else come up with a solution? I truly believe that with all the brain power out there (see, told ya I was going to keep this on the positive side :), perhaps someone has figured this one out! If you have any thoughts or ideas, please post a response! Thanks!

something new

Hunter is now supplying a rubber vinyl style boot that slips over the base of the mast/. If you do not have one, order it thru your dealer. I do not know yet if this will be a fix.

Saw it too but, uhhhhh, not sure if it will work

Crazy Dave, Yep, I saw them too at the Washington DC boat show. But I agree, lets see if they really work. And I did talk with Hunter and they're still working their brain cells trying to figure out something more substantial and effective. Has anyone else out there figured out a good solid fix?? I am going to order a full over the boom morring cover that will have a tie off around the mast above the mast hole, so that should slow the water down at least when it's either moored or trailored. Time will tell! Onward! -Robert

"Plastic Radome"

I don't moor my H216 so my only concern is covering the hole while the boat is on the trailer in my driveway. I bought an inexpensive plastic bowl that is the same color as the hull. Glued a round chunk of wood inside the bowl with Shoe Goo. Cut the bowl lip out to fit nicely over the cuddy cover. Attached bungee to attach the bowl to the mast step and, viola, no more leaks for me.

Mast Hole Leaks Solution!!

Thanks Moonbeam! You are correct. There is Hunter Dealer/sail designer/rigger in Denver North Carolina that has come up with a fix! I am in the process of ordering this mast boot cover, which runs about $75, from Select Yachts/Doyle Sails. No pictures of it yet, but check out the web link below to contact the dealer. I'm told it's easy to install and if you have any questions, the staff at Select Yacht's are very helpful and very knoweledgeable about Hunter's in general. A great resource!
