In my search for a 26' O'day to purchase, I came across a web site that claimed, O'day only made 87 of these boats. The years they made them were 1984 - 1986. Does anyone have any thoughts on why so few of these boats were made.It seems like a great boat, and the competition has continued to make 26 footers. Could my information be wrong ?

The Few, The Proud, The 26'ers

One reason that there are only a few, is that O'Day went out of business. But the main reason is probably the fact that comparing the O'Day 26 to any other boat comparing the Rolls Royce Silver Shadow, to a Ford Pinto. There are only a handfull of sailors our could ever appriciate the 26 for all it's worth. Sorry folks, couldn't resist. Ben Allen Montgomery, AL "Latte Dah" O'Day 26

Mine wan't too hard to find

Hi Jeff, I have read that same figure myself. I don't have any other info to corroborate that number. I suppose it is true, considering they were only produced for 3 years. I hope you can find one to buy. I have owned my Anniversary 84 model for about 1 1/2 years now. I didn't know anything about the boat before purchasing it other than it seemed in excellent shape and very clean. I am very happy with the decision. I sail it on a very windy lake about 10 miles inland from the Pacific. It handles beautifully. My only problem is the outboard. It's dying and I will have to replace it soon. Take care.
