Can anyone provide some info on a Florida sailmaker "Nuclear Sails"? I was reading that they are an alternative to the traditional and more expensive sailmakers. I understand that these sails are about half the cost and last almost as long as the more expensive high end kind. They are to be replaced after 3-4 years of serious racing and if they are not use too much you might get 5 years use. Are there other similar companies to Nuclear? Comments...

Fast Sail's

NuClear have been around for a while and are a spin off of UK Tape Drive's. NuClear might even being paying royalaties to UK. I have ordered a new medium UK Tape Drive 155 for this coming season and had thought about a NuClear sail for a light # 1 for racing. Ther prices look real good but I do wonder about them lasting. Update

I got some info on these sail's today. What they offer is a fast sail at a very good price. But like all things ther is a catch, longevity is the key here. On there entry level sail they are saying depending on use of course 2-3 years. With this in mind for me I need a sail to last longer. If I were to use a set just for racing I would get a longer life out of a set. I am still giving it some thought to buy a light # 1 for the drifter days. Cliff

Nuclear

I use the first or second set of there sails. they were pretty fast and very affordable. they have improved the product quite a lot in the last few years and have developed a great following. the sails are computer cut and very nicely made. They will last several seasons with little or no maint. they dry almost instantly and are easy to set and trim. they dont change shape. I have flown my nuclear blade (110%) several times way beyond what i concidered reasonable with no damage. I also had a 155, main and 130. whe won a lot of races with them. The earlier sails tended to get brittle with age but i use some of them with holes in them and never had a serious problem. I would reccomend them as a good economical solution. They are built by experienced people with a lot of go fast experience. go for it!

Half the cost for half the lifespan

Looks like these sails cost half as much as the high end sails. The also seem to last half a long. In reality, they are the same price as a UK or the like. They are no real deal then... Comments....
