Now that I've got my H27... Fiberglass & Teak

Thanks all for your previous help in making my decision to buy a 1980 H27 easier.Now I have two immediate jobs to get done to make my new boat good great and last longer. Fiberglass - my boat's oxidized and dull. Should I compound and wax it? If so what wax to use? I guess I should also buy an orbital polisher/grinder? Or should I get some high tech product(s)? If so which? I've searched the Web but mostly just came up with thinly veiled advertisments.Teak railing and hatch cover. Thought I'd lightly hand sand with 150 grit and then use a teak cleaner followed by oil. Any suggestions for manufactuer or a different approach to reviving the teak?Thanks in advance for your help - Mike

Enjoy the new boat

Hi Mike, I know you will enjoy your new H27. What is her name? "Mistress" will be at the SBCC rendezvous in Great River this week end. The Commodore's Cup is on Sunday. You can raft up with us on Saturday if you want and meet the "Misress" crew.

Mike,I prefer to go the varnish route with teak.If the piece is not to bad, I sand with 120 to clean wood, 2 coats of good marine grade varnish, 24 hr dry, light sand with 220, 2 coats varnish.If you want it to look like glass, repeat that process till you have about 8-10 coatsAnnual maintenance after a treatment like that is a quick sanding with 220 and a coat of varnish.
