I have boat plans for a Bruce Roberts 36 Cutter. Bought them in '80 something. Had plans to build my own, once a time, a long time ago. Hmmm... Might just revisit those plans when I get home for good.

.30 caliber rifle bullets will penetrate 3/8 inch of mild steel plate and take some of that steel with them. RPG-7's will by definition penetrate 7 inches of armor plate. pirates are well armed and deadly if they wish.

No kidding, forget the steel doors, mount claymores every 10' on the outter hull 3' above the water line. put your hands up and wait for the pirates to begin boarding and then have the wife click three times on the trigger for some real results.
I would like to know how he bent that steel. The welding I can understand but compound curves in steel plate takes large machines and a lot of power. There was a large globe shape water tower built near by my place some years ago and the plates for that work were brought in, preshaped, on heavy trucks. Perhaps there are companies where you can send the drawings and they shape the plate to specification.
Hey, if you're old enough does anyone remember the concrete boat. Back in the 70's a lot of people were building them. They were compared to a lead balloon but some were launched and actually sailed. It was basically an inside out swimming pool. Fair winds..
Building from sections of steel that have been shaped with an English wheel and welded together could produce almost any shape. I know for damn sure I wouldn't want to do it but it sure can be done.
Reminds me of an uncle with a similar plan. He spent nearly ten years building a 32' fiberglass cat from a mold. He died before he finished it.

It's not steel
it says it's built from fiberglass but that it uses a lot of steel in it. The battleship gray probably throws you.

While most boats like the one Tom is building are constructed out of fiberglass, he formed the steel housing by hand because of durability and safety concerns.
