Novice questionmarks??

Not to adulterate the beutifull design of the tartan 27 i am buying, but not being quite very fond of the rather tall aspect of its rig ( cutter/sloop ) and not opting for the yaul ??, were wondering whether i could add a bowsprit instead, without upsetting the cart.And if so how long?

Also with the gas fumes of a very ooold Atomic four not being very welcome, were wondering whether one may cut out a motor well ( construct I mean ) and if so how
big/strong a motor. Thank you

A tuned-up Atomic 4 might be a better performer AND more economical to run than just any old 2-stroke outboard.

Add in the cost of making an outboard well, and I would definitely opt to simply update the Atomic 4 - full tune-up, new fuel lines, maybe add electronic ignition, etc.

I don't get why you want to add a bowsprit? The rig is too tall? How does adding a bowsprit help that?

And I have to echo what kenn said about the A4 v. outboard. The Tartan 27 has the lazarette area behind the cockpit that might be able to hold an outboard, but an outboard stuck there is always a poor performing alternative. The prop comes out of the water in any sort of sea, and you have to leave the shaft permanently in the water. That means you have to paint the unit, which it will not like. You can always hang an outboard off the transom, but because of the lazarette, you will not have easy access to it, which means a remote throttle set up. Not a big deal, but something to keep in mind as it will increase the cost. But the big reason in my mind not to transom mount an outboard on a Tartan 27 is the look. Why ruin those classic lines?

Hey, if your A4 is spewing exhaust where it shouldn't, that's more than an annoyance; that's a real safety problem. Get it fixed or stop using it immediately.
