I have a Nova-Cool Refrigeration unit, Model #LT200, Serial #343378, Manufactured on 1/97. The power module has failed and I am trying to locate a replacement. I spoke with Marion at Nova-Cool in Canada, who informed me that these parts are no longer available from the factory. If anyone can direct me to someone who might know where to find this part(new or used)I would be most grateful.

Just Curious??

Hi Dave!! That doesn't really say too much for Nova Cool. Did he give you any reason why they don't have parts for them any more, discontinued or what?

Bad news.

That is not good news. Many builders including Hunter are using Nova Cool in their new boats. Why would the factory not know of a parts source? Use Nova Cool in a Google search and see what pops up. There must be a dealer somewhere with a decent stock of parts.

Nova Cool. Thats new to me.

I though a lot of manufacturers were using Alder Barbour refer units. I know Catalina does. The other big company I have heard of is Waeco refer units

Funny You Should Mention

It's funny you should mention a Google search because that is exactly what I did first. I must have e-mailed a dozen sources. I recieved only 2 replys. One said sorry, the other said they would keep looking and respond later. They never did. This is the first time I have tried FORUM. Perhaps someone will know of just such a cash of parts like you mentioned. Nova-Cool told me that these power modules were subcontracted to another manufacturer and are no longer available. Bad Luck for me and Bad Reputation for Nova-Cool. thanks dave-o

Small World

Like you said it does not say alot for Nova-Cool. They told me that these power modules were subcontracted to another manufacturer and were no longer available. I hoped that someone from FORUM will know of a good source for new or used parts. My other alternative is to replace the entire unit with another brand. YOU THINK...dave-o

Nova Kool Parts

Hi, I am pretty sure that Nova Kool uses the danvos compressor modual. Try this company for the parts you might need. www.rparts.com I am not associated with this company. I saw them at a Boat Show.

Hmmm.....

.....seems I remember someone who used to poke a little fun at me for not having refrigeration...all you've got to do is buy a little refrigerant - they sell it in 8 - 10 lb bags just up the road there....... Actually, an idea I had was to buy a very slightly used 40 footer....:)

Thanks O_Salt

I have posted a request on the rparts.com Forum page. Looks promising. Thanks dave-o

Just a thought

I just had a thought, the compressor is 12VDC. Nova Kool use to offer a 120 to 12volt converter. Is this the power pack you are talking about?

Dave, Try This

Dave, When I purchased my 1991 Beneteau 370, the power module was defective. I traced the power and concluded that power was coming in, but not going out. What the power module does is interpret information from the thermostat that is inside the freezer and turn the compressor on and off as well as the condensor fan on when the head pressure of the compressor reaches a predetermined pressure. Having said that; I opened up my control box and discovered that there was an "internal" buss fuse inside. This buss fuse (similar to the old style automotive fuse with the glass center) had a metal holder, which melted away from the circuit board. I de-soldered the fuse holder, purchased an external fuse holder with pig tail, and soldered in the wires to the spot where the holder used to be and presto! The thing works flawless. You may want to try this if your handy. Good Luck Jack Beneteau 411

Module is 12 volt DC

Thanks again for your input. The module in question is for 12 DC application. Jack had an idea concerning an internal fuse. My module has a 15 amp. externally mounted late model bar type automotive fuse. When I discovered the problem I tried several things to determine what was at fault. Eventually I disconnected the thermostat and the condensor fan, this left only the positive and negative battery leads connected. When I inserted the fuse "presto" it blew. When I described this to Nova-Kool it was immediately diagnosed as a faulty power module. All of which brings us back here. I have posted a request for help on rparts.com. Still no response. Thanks for your help... Dave-o

Replacement

You bet Dave!! If I did have to replace it I know what it wouldn't be with. If Nova doesn't have any better customer support than that and can't keep up with who is making their stuff, they would definately go on my list of products that I wouldn't accept as a gift. Steve, I haven't seen you since the "unfortunate incident" are you making any progress??

Long shot

Maybe pleading your case to the cutomer service-engineering guys at Waeco Adler Barbour will net some help. I bought the Waeco 3.9 cu ft ref. and had a problem with minimum voltage requirements and they were very helpfull as they have a unique power module that is 12-24 v.d.c and 120 v.a.c . They were extremely helpfull , courteous , and followed up. Maybe if they can't help you perhaps they can help you outline a replacement. Customer service is always "KING" with anything I buy. With out it you are left helpless and feel your hard earned money is not appreciated by them.

O-Salt You Were Right...

In your first response you said you thought Nova-Kool used Danfoss components. You were correct. I have contacted every distributor for Nova-Kool(some for the second time) and now have several leads on a replacement module. I have two quotes, one for $375.00 and another for $299.00. Not exactly cheap you say. Now I have to decide if I want to put that into a six year old system or replace the whole thing with a new system with warranty and hopefully better factory support. Thanks Again...Dave

Bad news

Bad news, I was trying to see what rparts sold their power modual for. The parts are at this link; http://www.rparts.com/Catalog/Major_Components/compressors/Danfoss/danfoss.asp If you have the old, 4 pin they are discontinued. The good news is that the following manufactures used this compressor; Adlerbarber Grunert Polar Bay Waco Scan Marine Nova Kool Tundra Sea Freeze One of them might have the old modual. These are just the Marine users.

J.B......

Yeah, we did the survey and haul out yesterday for a 38 Catalina at Lake Texoma. Now it's just paperwork, scheduling and paperwork to get the boat delivered to her new home. Oh yeah, did I mention paperwork?

Thanks O_Salt

The best information to date has come from rparts.com. They state that as of Feb. 19, 2003 Danfoos has discontinued production of all 4-pin modules. Owners of older 4-pin compressors will need to replace the module and compressor with either the Danfoos BD35 or BD50 compressor and module #102N3033S for 12 Volt and #102N4030 for 24 Volt application. Cost of these parts is around $320.00 plus shipping. I still have some inquiries out trying to find the original Danfoss Power Module, Danfoss part #102N3031. With some luck I may find one in old stock.

Customer Support

Dave, just a little information on a different maintenance project. As an off season project, I decided to overhaul my Ritchie compass as the globe has become spiderwebbed. I contacted the factory parts department and gave them the model and serial number on a 21 year old compass. With about a 5 minute conversation with the young lady on the other end, she had me fixed up with everything that I needed to completely renew the compass at less than 50 bucks. She then thanked me for calling and advised that they appreciated my business. It's amazing how much simpler life is when there is decent factory service and customer support.
