i would be scared of out of date rubber component for the fear of them cracking or letting go and the electronics are kind of dated even if they are new

I can think of a lot of other boats I'd rather drop 100K on, if that was even an option.

That boat is worth 35K tops and you would have to update all the electronics and the engine? a BMW engine.....parts where do you get parts, I have a 1978 Westerbeke and its obsolete so getting parts is a sometimes difficult and it was a popular engine

Nice boat. Knock it down to the 60's and it would be a grea deal. You probably would want to repower, unless those BMW parts are still available.

I adore the interior of that boat. Real bright and open, yet salty too.

But.. that radar!! ;)

I would for sure replace most electronics. And that's a good point about the engine...I even wonder if it was serviced and run yearly? If the engine was in good condition and the consumables (filters belts impeller etc) were available, I suppose it could be used til it breaks down... which could be a long time.

Still... neat boat. I'd take her on, at a more reasonable price, if I was retired and about $100k more to the black than I currently am.

If there were someone out there, that had one of these on their list for the ultimate "dream boat", it's a rare find. But a pristine 31 year old boat, is not like a pristine BMW or whatever. Regardless of how it was kept.
There's no doubt is was stored nicely though.
Although I wouldn't do it, even with a hundred large to throw at a boat, I can't help but have the feeling, that somebody will..

Really? It may weigh more than a car, but in terms of systems and materials, a boat is usually less complex than a car, I would think. There are of course things like hoses, belts, filters, thruhulls etc that can deteriorate over time... but you'd have the same considerations with an unused old car too. [ok... no thruhulls in cars]

What would you worry about with this particular boat, besides what's already been mentioned?

If I was going to pay a $100K for a pristene, never driven, (OK not many cars from 81 are desireable) so, How about a '72 Chevy Chevel SS 454...??

Chances are I wouldn't be driving it much either...

So is this a "collectable"... or just an overpriced '81 car/boat in good shape...?

I wouldn't "worry" about ANYTHING on the boat. For the exception that for a hundred grand, a man can find all kinds of boats, that had electronics and other systems on it, that it wasn't so old, it came over with the Lord, on the Mayflower.
There's nothing particularly special, or unique about this boat, for the only exception that it's old, and unused.
The emphasis on old...

I'm sure,(again), that someone will LOVE the boat, and probably buy it. Fine. I couldn't care less if it were a million dollars. My point was, is a lot of older cars are collectibles, boats rarely are. It's not like Joshua Slocum owned it..

So, given the market as it is, what does this group think a fair selling price for this boat should be? I'm not yet seeking an offshore boat, but if I was... I dunno.. maybe $50k? The engine is a risk, alot of electronics must be replaced, and the usual extra stuff with a used boat isn't there.

Anyone know the sailing reputation of this model? Is she yar, or a barge?

It's not "new" in any sense, just unused. Being 31 years old, even if stored indoors every fitting would need rebedded. The upholstery is rather outdated as are the electronics and a motor without good parts availability.

Looks great and I think I'd jump at the chance if I wanted a really clean project boat. Value wise who knows? How long has she been on the market?

I tried to find other boats of this model to compare but didn't have any luck.
I would approach the possible purchase just like any other boat I would be interested in. Look at the age, condition and what would need replaced/updated. What I think it is worth compared to other boats of the same size and seaworthiness.
It may be never used but it is NOT new.

Question: I have never seen a boat whose prop shaft goes through the top of keel and the prop exits the keel rather than the hull itself. Is that very unusual? Advantages? Disadvantages?
