I have been given a laptop to use with my chart plotting softwear (Fugawi). My problem is I should really format the hard drive on this machine but I don't know the best way to do this. I have been told the best operating system to use for this laptop is windows 98 version 2. How do I get this operating system back in if I reformat c: as I don't think the puter will recconise the cd rom untill windows is installed? Thanks for your anticipated help. I love Fughawi and now with the free charts on NOAA it is even better.

I would advise....

you to have someone a little more qualified do this. You want it to be right to make the software work properly. A local PC store should be able to do this fairly cheply. After all you did get the hw for free. Tim Network Engineer

Reformatting your Hard Drive

It's really not too difficult to get the operating system back in the puter once you reformat it - you'll need to create a startup disk -- tell you what, go to this website and it'll guide you through each step - http://tips4windows.com/ (also below) and then go to "System Maintenance", then "Recapture System Speed" - there's a 3 part answer to your question with step by step instructions. Enjoy your new hardware!
