I was at salvage yard today and came across a NOS gas stove with NOS tank 2500 PSI. Two gauge regulator one for flow the other for tank pressure like an oxy-acetylene tank and regulator. Looked like a pretty nice set up. Stove/ oven fully gimbaled looked like new.
NOS has about the same specific gravity as propane. The flame looked hot and clean.
Didn't take pictures of it phone was in car I was in boat.

Has anyone had a NOS system in their boat? Advantages, disadvantages?

I had a nitrous car one time that would go 150mph in about four seconds. After that experience, someone would have to talk long and hard to convince me to put that madness on a boat. Maybe hooked to the motor for that hole-shot..

it was probably CNG compressed natural gas, that's what my 85 C30 has and I love it

If they ever found the parts after an explosion, there would still be a smile on my face. :D

NOS is not a specific gas nomenclature. NOS in the gas industry mean Not otherwise specified and is reference to mixes such as argon / CO2 mixes, etc. Nitrous is like oxygen, an oxidizer, not a fuel in and of itself. It is more than likely a CNG unit.

Thanks I could not imagine Nitrous oxide used for that purpose.

Normally when dealing with parts and equipment, NOS means New Old Stock. Meaning that the part/device has never been installed, sold or used but is not a current model or is shop worn, been laying around for a long time, the box is missing or similar.

Would the tan color of the tank mean anything? Ie: my O2 tank is green, acetylene is almost always silver, my helium tank is red....
I'll have him take a sniff of the gas. I'm trying not to show too much of an interest in it because the price will go up.

Color of the cylinder means nothing except to the owner. the label is what is important.

Maybe .................... but look at how fast you could cook a ten pound turkey in the oven. Probably under 30 seconds. You'd have to chase around to pick up all the scattered turkey nuggets after but it'd be fast .

I can pick up the Gas Systems stove/oven (very clean) tank hose and regulator for a song. My understanding the advantages are that CNG is stored at much higher pressures and so a tank last much longer. It is lighter than air so it dissipates rather than pooling like LPG. I didn't notice but there may even be a gas refrigerator on board. It will fit nicely in the Lugar 30. It should make the Admiral happy since lighting the existing alcohol stove is a frightening experience.
