Just got home from my boat on the Northshore of Lake Ponchatrain. Removed the sails, bimini, solar panels, chartplotters, and filled the water tanks. Doubled all the docklines and helped a few neighbors with their lines. My marina is about two miles up river from the lake but still probably will see a big surge, the floating docks at the marina can only take about 10'-12'. Insurance is paid up, but I hope I don't need it. Wish everyone the best, I guess its our turn in the barrel.

Good luck Charles

Good luck to all the sailboat owners from Biscayne Bay to Galveston. Its been a busy year in the H'cane areas. We wish you the best. Be sure and report back: what happened, what helped, what hurt?

My wife and I had been planning on going to Slidell to work on the Coronado this weekend for a couple of weeks. As we were packing up Friday, I mentioned to my wife that Katrina may be headed that way. On the way down there, I remembered that I didn't bring the portable air conditioner. Then when we moved things on the boat, my wife discovered she forgot the clothes. No air conditioning I can live with, combine that with no changes of clothes, and I didn't like the way things were going. THEN we watched the weather report, and Katrina was predicted to hit us, and predicted (then) to grow from 3 to 4. The wife and I talked it over, and decided to buy our wood for the work on our O'Day, and beat the traffic out of town. We headed west on I12 at 6:00. By 11:00, we had made less than 100 miles. We may have beat the worst of the traffic, but we definitely didn't beat all of it. Finally, about 2 in the morning, and a few miles north of Baton Rouge, the traffic cleared. We made it home about 7am (Dallas/Ft Worth area). Now, we're watching the news, and hoping for the best for our Coronado 35 in Oak Harbor on the NE part of Lake Pontchartrain. The marina is pretty well sheletered, and we doubled up on lines and tied all of the hatches down. Now we're discussing how soon they'll let "out of towners" in so we can check on the status of the Coronado. If any of you folks are in that area, and can help us out by checking on it when things calm down, we'd love the help.

Been there and feel your pain...

kissed my boat goodbye many years ago as I left it in one of the NC hurricanes. It's a very sad thing to do knowing there is nothing more you can do. The eye went right over top of us, luckily my boat was ok except for some water damage. A few others didn't fare so well, so you never know. Good luck.
