I'd like to take my small boat (Oday Daysailer) and go some place in northern MN or WI and sail and camp, sail and camp for a week trip. Thinking I put the tent etc. under the cuddy and explore. Couple of questions. Any suggestions on lakes? I was thinking Crane lake by Orr looked interesting. Was thinking a shield lake with islands. Does the air die in August up there like it does in central Iowa? We generally have very little wind during August so that would be a great time to leave here and head north to cooler temps and water. Thanks

I have boated island to island on Kabetogema (a little north of Crane). It is a very nice lake and even has Nat. Park Status on part of it. Great place but you have to watch for reefs on any of those northern border lakes, they are usually marked with buoys but not always. The Apostle Islands are very nice as well, you just have to watch weather and head for cover behind islands when the wind really kicks up. I am not aware of no winds in August up here, maybe just an Iowa thing. Good luck and have great trip.

Give Leech Lake some consideration. It could take you a week to explore it and there are a lot of nice bays and coves to anchor in. Others that you should consider: Pepin, the St. Croix, Minnetonka, Waconia, Gull and Mille Lacs. Lake of the Woods if you are talking about going REALLY north... You have roughly 10,000 options...

I would try the Apostle Islands they're protected and really cool. It's a really neat area with lots to do. Another smaller lake is in Cadot WI. There's a state park there. Otherwise, come over to Lake Winnebago and put in there. you can travel the lake for a week and see every town. There's many transient slips and some with shore power and water for less than $10 a night Neenah has some really great restaurants within walking distance of the harbor. There's no shore power but you can pull up to the seawall and stay for free for up to two nights. There's restrooms but no showers within a hundered yards of the harbor.let me know if you need any more info. Dave
