It's been a great trip thus far. Yesterday & last night was the proverbial "calm before the storm" and it was interesting to watch everyone around the harbor moving about with a purpose. The whole day seemed calculated. Boats from away were circling the harbor looking for dock or mooring space and engine-less classic wooden race boats were being towed in to ride out the storm on their better protected moorings. The harbor master and crew seemed over worked and frazzled. Morris Yachts here purportedly lost an axle on the travel lift leaving about 4 plus million in yachts who were looking for haul outs still in the water. Bad time for a failed axle but a good harbor to be in if you can't get hauled.
Friday & Saturday we decided to do some hiking around Acadia National Park and our 4 year old did nearly three miles over rocky pink granite before she pooped out enough to need a ride in the back pack. She was like a squirel running up the trail and then back reporting what was around the next bend, so she probably did more than 3 miles..
On the way back I stopped over at the "Clifton Dock" and bought one block and 10 bags of cubes to put into our "ice cooler". Yes, we cruise with a cooler full of just drink ice. Iced coffee, bloody Mary's, vodka lemonade, margarita's fun stuff.. Having ice is nice and if you need to ride out a storm it's a good commodity to have.
Right now it's stopped raining and the peak wind gust has been 32.1 knots. The harbor is flat calm and well protected, a true Maine hurricane hole. We have a few friends who are also in NEH for the storm including Tim R., another member here. We have good wi-fi, though slow, and Zozo got a mani/pedi from mom this morning. Her toe and fingernails are pink, purple, pink purple and she's quite proud of it. Making Play Dough now and a puzzle is on deck..
I made a quick, wet jaunt to shore this morning to get some milk for coffee and some horse raddish for bloody Mary's. Pepper alone just won't cut it.. Also needed some "After Bite" because the mosquitoes planned a sneak attack on our ankles last evening..
For some odd reason our TV/DVD player started working again yesterday. This after being out of commission since the lightning strike of last summer and multiple attempts to try and get it fired up. We'll see how long it lasts..? Odd really.....
Right now the motor is running to cool the fridge holding plate and also put some juice back into the battery bank as solar is obviously performing very poorly today and even our Nicro solar vent is out of steam. Been on the hook here since Thursday running stuff. Batteries are still accepting about 25 amps and the holding plate is almost down to my goal of 0F and then we'll have the peace and quiet back...
All in all this is looking like it's going to be a great trip. The only possible glitch I could see might be a boat drifting into us in the storm..
