I am planning to cruise the North Channel of Lake Huron this summer and will launch my H26 at DeTour Village, MI. (near Drummond Island) Has anyone in 2006 had to deal with checking in with Border authorities from Canada and USA when crossing into and out of Canada. Info so far says we would have to go to Meldrum Bsy the check in by phone with Canada, but coming back to USA now requires you to get a I-86 pass to be legit - if I understand the regs correctly. Any input is welcomed.

Used to be able to check in at Yacht Haven on Dummond on your return. Last time I was there about 3 years ago. Meldrum had a Custons person there during the daytime. I68, if available make things easier returning. Other ON ports will have a phone to check in.

A little research

On my website at http://www.lakeontariosailing.com/reporting_requirements.htm there are links to both U.S. and Canadian websites concerning border crossing by pleasure boat. Is there an OARS Videophone at the port you use to return to the U.S.? I don't know, but I bet a little web surfing will get you the answer.
