You gotta be careful when buying flip flops. Most of the cheap ones are quite slippery on wet surfaces as are Crocs.

My default summer and boat shoes are $8 river shoes. Very close to barefoot, but a great grip and some protection against stubbing your toes. They dry out very quickly too.

The only time I put real shoes on in the summer is when I have to do some serious work, or dress up for something.

With full time use (100+ mile bicycle rides, volley ball tournaments, walking, swimming and other activities) I get about 2 years per pair.

Believe it or not the best non skid shoe I've ever worn is a pair of Crocs. I race in them, cruise in them and most everything else. Their grip on slick wet hatches and skylights is unbelievable.

Last year I bought a pair of Sperry Figawa shoes. I only wear mine on the boat whether racing or cruising. Good traction even when doing foredeck not to mention comfortable (they have a cool liner thing inside), cool and fast drying. I was never satisfied with the stickiness of the Sperry Topsiders. Love my Figawa's though!

We call them topsliders. Sand paper does help but I now buy others. I try really hard to not wear my boat shoes shoreside. Barefoot is my favorite.

I use these a lot whether sailing my dinghy, or as water shoes at the beach to avoid cuts, but they are also really good non skid on the soles. they are neoprene on top and molded soles. Also since they are an extension of a wet suit they keep your feet warm when wet. Really great all purpose shoe for around the boat and docks.

Depending on weather I wear "skater type" shoes all the time. Good grip, comfortable and protect my toes.
